Bippie or Mini Bippie: which one?

One stays home and one goes everywhere. How to choose, and why some families choose both.

4 minute read

This is the question people ask at the product page, so here is the answer we would give across a kitchen table. The Bippie is the one that stays home. The Mini Bippie is the one that goes everywhere. Everything else about choosing follows from that.

The same Bippie, two sizes

Both are made the same way: a shell of certified organic cotton, a fill of kapok, a face embroidered in thread, and the hidden pocket on the back with its small open heart. Both arrive sealed, and both come with their First Page card riding beside them in the wrapping. Nothing about the Mini is a lesser version. It is the same Bippie, smaller.

The Bippie is about 13 by 9 inches and 3 inches thick. That is big enough to sleep on, which is the point. It comes in Canolli Cream, Lamb's Wool, Pastel Blue, and Pink Marshmallow, and it is $65.

The Mini Bippie is about 9.5 by 6 inches and 2 inches thick. It fits a small hand, a car seat, a diaper bag, a backpack. It comes in Canolli Cream and Lamb's Wool, and it is $45. Because every Bippie is made by hand, measurements vary a little from one to the next.

The Bippie: for the bed and the couch

We made the Bippie pillow-shaped on purpose. A child can lie on it, lean on it during a story, drag it to the couch, and sleep with an arm over it. It has the presence of a real companion rather than a toy, and its pocket is roomy enough for a folded drawing. If you are choosing one Bippie for home, this is it. If it is for a baby, it is the one that will still be the right size years from now.

One honest note for the newest members of the family: safe-sleep guidance says to keep all soft items out of the sleep space for babies under twelve months. Daytime snuggles first. Bedtime comes later, and the Bippie will be ready.

The Mini: for the car, the bag, and the trip

The Mini exists because nobody wants to carry a pillow-sized companion on a short trip, and a child does not want to leave theirs behind. It is the travel Bippie. It lives in the car seat, comes along to the grandparents', rides in the stroller basket, and fits in the diaper bag with room to spare. It is the one that is always within reach when you are not at home, which is when a small person most needs something familiar to hold.

The Mini has the pocket too, sized for a smaller note. A folded wish fits.

Why some families want both

Home and away is the usual reason. One Bippie stays in the bed and never gets lost. One Mini lives in the bag and handles the world. A child who has both does not have a spare; they have a home one and a going-out one, and they usually know exactly which is which.

The Bippie Bundle is one of each, in any combination of colors, for $99. A cream Bippie for the bed and a Lamb's Wool Mini for the car is the pairing we would choose, but that is the fun of it.

If you are giving one as a gift

For a new baby, either is a fine choice, and the Bippie is the one that grows with them. For a toddler who already has a beloved something at home, the Mini is the thoughtful pick: it does not compete with the favorite, it joins the outings. For anyone older, or a grown-up who could use a soft thing to hold, the Bippie.

If you are still torn, write to info@bippieco.com and tell us who it is for. We will give you the kitchen-table answer. What both are made of is on Materials & Safety.
